There are so many reasons to come study at TRU. To name a few reasons, we have unique programs to choose from, we have a department just for international students studying abroad, TRU is very multicultural through food and making people feel welcome.

Why come to TRU? TRU has multiple programs and courses that are unique and can’t be anywhere else. Programs like the Event and Convention Management Diploma, Sport Event Management Diploma or the Bachelor of Tourism Management Program are just a few examples of programs that are offered at TRU that other schools do not offer or TRU is one of only a handful of schools. While we still have the traditional programs at TRU, you have many more options for programs that are not offered anywhere else. Why limit yourself when you don’t have to, by coming to TRU.

TRU is a leading destination in Canada for international students. It is enriched by diverse students from all over the world, taking different programs, and approaching different goals. The International enrollment now exceeds 2,839 students from 85 nations worldwide, which is 10.2% out of the total student headcount 25,754. TRU welcome the insights and intercultural understanding gained from students who come here with different backgrounds and cultures. TRU has 8 International Student Advisors who speak different languages: Mandarin, Korean, Arabic, Hindi, Punjabi, Urdu, Russian, Japanese, Swahili and Ukrainian. Moreover, TRU organises public events, community-based service learning, Aboriginal awareness week, and concerts to keep students engaged with the community all the time.

“It’s an awesome university, which connects variety of cultures together and everyone is so bind with each other. I only have warm feelings and good memories. Also, the stuff there, professors, and advisers are supportive and helpful. Just good memories since the first time I arrived”, that’s what Diana Igumnova thinks of her experience at TRU since she left Russia and arrived to Kamloops.

International students don’t only get the chance to involve with the community, but also, they get the chance to share their own cultures and backgrounds. The IDay is a TRU tradition since 1993 that enhances intercultural skills and understanding by inviting students, staff and guests to celebrate all the cultures on campus with music, dance, food, workshops. Teshu Agrawal is an international student from India and was part of the IDays, she says, “TRU makes the effort of going an extra mile to accommodate us internationals and I am glad to have been a part of this experience”.

TRU also offers international cuisines for international students who miss their hometown food. Indian, Japanese and Halal choices are served on campus to meet international students’ needs.

Faloyo Adelanke who is an international student from Nigeria says that TRU, “is a conducive environment to students because if it’s diversity”. All the way from Saudi Arabia, Wadiah Mubarak came to TRU after visiting different universities. When asking her, “Why TRU?” She said, “I found TRU campus a very safe place to stay at, especially when I need to study until midnight”. “TRU is a multicultural school making it feel like home”, said Isra Jaffar from Iraq.

Travelling to another country can be scary but with TRU’s Study Abroad department an international student has nothing to worry about. The resources available to international students are a vast amount. Anything you need to know before coming to Kamloops, British Columbia, Canada can be found on the Study Abroad website or through one of our eight international advisors that all know multiple languages. They can help you with anything thing from recommending accommodation to how the transit system works in Kamloops. When it comes down to it there isn’t much they can’t help you with.

Why TRU? While there are many schools as an international student you have to choose from TRU, is the place you will want to be. The multicultural food will make you not as homesick. The many unique programs to choose from will guarantee that you will find the right program for you. The study abroad resources will make coming here as easy as one, two, three. Why TRU? You should ask yourself why not TRU!
