“It’s great to be here. It’s great to be anywhere”. That is what the great Keith Richards once said, and if we had to pick between anywhere or TRU? We’d pick TRU. TRU is located right in the center of the beautiful Kamloops, British Columbia.  I know, where even is Kamloops right? If you’re from a different province, country, or even continent, when you hear British Columbia, you probably think of Vancouver (which is only a few hours away!). If you’ve travelled across country, you may have driven through Kamloops and if you ever have taken the time to stop and look around, you’ll realize it truly is a hidden gem. Kamloops is a quiet, small, adventurous town, that is home to a great university. Filled with endless activities, amenities, housing, and awesome professors, our time at TRU has been unforgettable.

A glimpse at the campus – International Building and the Brown House of Learning

The views here are something that can’t be beat! From each of your classrooms, you get unbelievable views of the mountains, and you can see the city for miles. We know that moving away from home can be a daunting experience. But we quickly realized that no matter where you decide to reside in Kamloops, you’ll have amazing views, for a great price, and you’ll have no problems getting to school. We talked to some of the students, and even if you live across town there are certain busses that take you directly to the university. Not into bussing? TRU offers many options for on campus, and off campus housing.

the “New Rez” building

There are two resident buildings on campus to choose from. The “New Rez” building is a little bit more fancy (we both preferred this building). It is a beautiful/modern, relatively new building, and the inside is just as nice as the outside! Inside we found many common areas where you could make meals, places to do laundry, and there is 24 hour security – which is always a plus.  Then there is “Old Rez”, where the rooms are a little bit smaller, but nonetheless, a perfect option if you want to live on campus. Many of the students decide to live off campus, and there are amazing websites where you can rent rooms, basement suites, etc.

One of the awesome things we realized about Thompson Rivers University, is that even though it may be a small campus compared to something like UBC, there is still so much to do. The Tournament Capital Centre is right on campus, so whatever type of sport you may be in to, you will be able to do it here! And after your workout, you can conveniently hit up any of the student run coffee shops on campus, or if you’re feeling a little fancy, Starbucks or Tim’s is an option!

the Brown House of Learning – Perfect place to get lots of studying done 🙂

When you’re choosing your university, a lot of things may come into play. Are the courses good? Are the professors nice? Will there be things to do? Well, we can guarantee you, that TRU will check all your boxes. We can’t wait to plan our next trip back 🙂

Beautiful views – right from your car!
