Thompson Rivers University is a place that you could find yourself and live as the way you like. It is also a multicultural communicate center.

First of all, student should work hard to get better grades for their courses. An international student would have to spend more time on learning because study in another language is not as easy as in one’s first language. Before exams and due dates, the library is packed which means it will be hard to find a space to study. House of learning is a good place to go, not only because it is warmer than computer lab, but it also got a Tim Hortons on the first floor! During the exam weeks, there will be a relax area provide some pressure reducing games.

A cup of coffee is the best choice before starting a day of study or working few hours for assignment. For international students, Starbucks coffee is more familiar than Tim Horton. With few friends and have a cup of your favorite coffee, spend some time to share interesting things is a happy moment of the day. The time that you are waiting for your coffee is also a good timing to meet new friends. A simple ‘Hi’ or ‘How are you’ can help you build a new friendship. Starbucks coffee is quite expensive in China and is cannot find everywhere. However, Starbucks is located in old main building in our university and everyone can easily buy it. This is also a very interesting phenomenon for new Chinese students.

As an international student, I have always felt my life is simple and boring since I’ve arrived in Kamloops. Recently I just began to go to the university gym because of my roommate’s recommendation for a hobby. She is a Canadian girl and also a new student. She told me that she started to go to gym when she was 15 years old and that she loves it. In China, visiting a gym is not part of daily life for the most university students, but it appears to be quite the opposite here in Canada. Attending a gym or exercises is a bigger part of daily life for many Canadian students. We usually can see many friends at the gym. Some students go to the gym to improve their body figure, but it is also beneficial to making lots of new friends. Also, because most international students live far away from our home countries and families who worry about our well-being, going to the gym is a great way to reassure them and ensure that our lifestyles are healthy. It is also convenient for international students all across Canada because it appears that most universities have great gymnasiums, so this makes exercises very convenient.

Last but not the least, the events for international students are the most expected part of a year. As a student from China, the Chinese New Year Event could make us feel not so lonely during the Spring Festival, which is the day all Chinese people would go back to home and stay with their families. We have dinner together, watch shows that prepared by students, and the firework show is reserved for every year. This picture was from 2014, which was the first event that we have joined. The girl in red was Krystal, she danced on that event and joined the fashion show at the end. She was really enjoyed it and decided to become the director of the event in 2015.

In conclusion, there are lots of fun to study in TRU as a studying aboard experience. You could always find your path here.
