TRU . . . A Place for All

Today we’ll take you on a journey through this spectacular University, Thompson Rivers.

New Rez

Thompson Rivers University is known to have one of the highest quality residences for students. TRU understands that to be a happy student you must love where you live. Unlike most University dorms, New Rez offers private rooms in one dorm to ensure privacy and comfort. Luckily these dorms come with a double sized bed, television, desk, chairs, and lighting. You also share one bathroom with your roommate which includes an excellent shower that never seems to run out of hot water. You also get to share a common area with a table and a place to do your dishes. This building is also equipped with a 4 very big common kitchens, and a high tech laundry room that offers an app that allows you to connect your phone, which notifies you when your laundry is finished. High speed internet, a local phone and cable are things not to be worried about when it comes to New Rez. On top of all of this there is a 24- hour front desk reception, common lounges, a patio, and a large games room. Staying healthy is something New Rez takes notice of, so of course the building includes a 24-hour fitness area. A great perk is free maintenance, and housekeeping every two weeks. You can apply for a double bedroom dorm, a single dorm, or a quad depending on your preferences. Last but not least, the location of this building was built on a hill overlooking the whole city of Kamloops giving students a stunning view of their city, while making sure that students are in a 10 minute proximity of all their classes. The perfect place to live is an understatement . . .

TRU Events

As a student of Thompson Rivers University, you are given every opportunity to engage with the student body through clubs and events that are organized and operate through the Student Union and funded through TRU. These clubs and events provide students with lasting memories and valuable volunteer work that can be applicable to their professional careers. An amazing example of this would be an event like “Campus In Flight”, which took over TRU and captured the attention of students, faculty, and Kamloops locals. TRUSU and the “Out Here Ski and Snowboard Club” organized this event to showcase some of the best skiers and snowboarders that TRU, Kamloops, and Interior BC have to offer. Campus in Flight was the first event of its kind but with all the praise and attention it has received, students can expect more student run events to receive more funding and opportunity to over achieve and succeed in showcasing this amazing university.

On Campus Athletics Facility

Kamloops holds the title of the “Tournament Capital of Canada” because of its impressive amount of national sport tournaments that attracts spectators and participants from all over Canada. The primary facility that hosts these tournaments is the “Tournament Capital Center” also know as the TCC, which is located on TRU’s campus and provides students with a state of the art facility to engage in physical activity and sport. The TCC hosts the Wolf Pack’s home games for the basketball, volleyball, and soccer teams as well as many other student athletic events. Students are also offered free swimming and a discounted price for their monthly gym membership to promote a healthy lifestyle while attending school. For those interested in Yoga, there is also a room designated for that purpose. The TCC is also unique because it holds the honor of hosting the CFL’S, BC Lions, every year for their summer training before the starts of the football season. The TCC also includes a massive gymnasium open to TRU students and locals. This amazing facility is just one of the amazing infrastructures provided for the students of TRU to use to further expand their learning experience while attending University.
