When you first come to university everyone is so excited to start classes that they get so engrossed with their studies that they don’t notice some of the amazing things going on around them. Life is suddenly passing you by and next thing you know its second semester and you have yet to experience anything other than class and homework. We, being Kim and Anna, know exactly how you feel and want to help you out. We are going to introduce you to some interesting places and activities around our beautiful Thompson Rivers University Campus.

If you are bored and tired of studying, not interested in sports or some other activities, then you should check out the CFBX Campus Radio. It is a local radio station that specializes in local programming. It is in House 8 right here on campus. The station provides listeners with different kinds of music, as well as unique radio shows. The radio station is always in need of volunteers so if you have ever wanted to host your own radio show or just wanted to try something new this might be the place for you.

Another maybe no so hidden gem is The TRU AdventureU Outdoor Club. It is running completely by students for students. Their mission is “to inspire the TRU community to #besocial #getoutside #havefun, and to add to the TRU experience that will forge friendships and memories that will last a lifetime.” The AdventureU Club holds numerous outdoor activities each month and is open to any students no matter what program you are in or what level outdoor experience you have. For any first-year students, this is a perfect club to get you outside, seeing the sights of Kamloops and making new friends.

The Scratch Café located in the culinary arts building is one of the many hidden gems on the TRU campus. The food is made from scratch and sourced locally, sustainably and ethically wherever possible. The menu is created by our very own TRU Culinary Arts students. For four days of the week the students create a new and exciting menu complete with one breakfast item and six lunch entrees. The Scratch Café also has a soup and salad bar with a variety of different options. It is open from 10:00am to 1:30 Tuesday to Friday for both the fall and winter semester. Closely tied to The Scratch Café is the Retail Meat store, open on Thursdays in the same building. It offers meat products that students in the retail meat processing program have processed and cut. For good food and meat at affordable prices these places are something every student should check out!
